I can’t believe I did not get one of these a long time ago. Such a great functional piece.
The Alpha Direct Vest is an amazing ski layer. I wore it every single day out this season, warm or cold, rain or snow, hill/touring/sledding/introducing my 1.5 year old to the mountains. Good fit, doesn't feel too bulky (I'm 5'9", 160lb and have the med). Made for a perfect mid layer, usually over a basecamp hoody. Looking forward to using it as a simple packaway layer for cold mtb or alpine climbing this summer/fall.
The team at both the Highlands store and the Snowmass shop are great. Best is warm and easy to cram in a backpack if it get’s a little hot in the spring. The gear is the best! Thanks for everything
I've been looking for a breathable, warm but not too warm, vest to add to my layering strategy for a variety of activities in fall, winter, and spring and this one fits the bill perfectly. I use it for trail running, mountain biking, and splitboarding and it adds just the right amount of warmth over a baselayer for all those activities. I run very warm and have tried multiple insulated "breathable" vests from other brands and found them all too hot, but this is just right. For splitboarding I'm typically in just a baselayer and will wear this at the start of the day or when I'm in the higher alpine. If it's wet and I have my shell jacket on, I'll wear the vest over the shell for some extra warmth at times. As a bonus, the interior drop pockets fit a pair of skins, even wider splitboard skins, very nicely to keep them toasty for the next lap. Durability has been great so far and it packs up small to carry in the pack when not worn. As a bonus, in black the style is understated and I've worn it casually over a flannel, etc several times. Overall a super versatile piece!
I've been looking for a piece like this. I get too warm touring in my jacket with a full mid layer. This has been perfect for 0-15º touring, under the Cham jacket. Breathability - just like the Cham jacket this thing breathes so well that I never need to take it off. This is important for me. Fit - I wear an XL or XXL t shirt depending on the brand/fit. I got the XL vest. It felt a little loose when I tried it on but it's felt good under a jacket. If you wanted a tighter fit, I'd size down. Construction - minimalist to keep weight down. Love that. Fired up. I will use this vest for many years and tours to come.
